There are five different types of prayer:
Adoration This is where we can tell God how much he means to us and how much we love him. It's basically a worship prayer, for the sole reason that our God is an awesome, loving and living God!
Confession This is where we can talk to God about things that haven't quite gone to plan, and about when we've messed up and sinned. If we tell God that we are truly sorry and ashamed of what we've done, then He will forgive us and wipe us clean again.
Thanks This is where we can say thank-you for and appreciate what God has given us in life. It could be thanking him for an answered prayer, or a great opportunity, or just thanking God for the gift of life itself. Thanks and Adoration are closely linked.
Supplication This is where we can ask God for something for either ourself or others. This could range from a new job to strength in a certain situation. Jesus said: "Ask and you will recieve." Remember God knows what you need best and His answer may be "No" if you are asking for something which wasn't good or right.
Listenining This is normally a silent prayer where instead of talking to God, you wait for God to talk to you. Prayer should be a two-way communication, remember. God can speak to you through all sorts of ways, from a direct word, to a feeling, intuition or idea. Also remember that you may not hear something every time.
